Check out their prices on activities too. In addition to the snorkeling gear, you might want to rent a stand-up surf board. Napili Bay is a great place to learn to stand-up paddle. The entry is easy and you won’t get hurt falling on shallow rocks or coral.

Places to Eat

Sansei Seafood Restaurant and Sushi Bar

Sansei features five star, award winning fish and sushi. It qualifies as a great deal on Maui on Sunday and Monday between 5:15 and 6:00 pm. Every thing is 25% off the regular price. But if you know someone with a Hawaiian drivers license you’ll get 50% off, making a night at Sansei a real great deal on Maui.

The problem is you have to get in line around 4:30 to get in. But if you don’t require a table you can sit at the sushi bar. That’s a different line. The long line is perpendicular to the entry door. The sushi bar line is along the wall under cover. Get in that line around 5:05 and you should be good to go. Take an umbrella. The sun beats in and you’ll stay cool under it. Everyone will envy you.

From the Maui vacation condo rentals at Napili Village go north on Lower Honoapiilani Road and go past the Mauian and the Napili Kai Resort. Wind around and turn right when the road dead ends at Office Road. Go half way up the hill, just past the Honolua Store and Sansei is on your left. Park in the lot. Enjoy.

The Sea House Restaurant

From the beach access the Sea House is located all the way on the right side of Napili Bay. From your Napili rental, go to the public beach access to the left of our property, head towards the beach and turn right heading past the Mauian and over to the Napili Kai Resort beach front. The Sea House is at the end of the sidewalk. You can’t beat the view and you are literally right on the water edge while dining. They open at 7 am. If you’re on a budget try the French toast for breakfast. Ask for a side of peanut butter. Pour on the coconut syrup and you’ll enjoy the best $6 breakfast you’ve ever had with the best view on the island. It takes the prize for best cheap meal on Maui with a view. They stop serving breakfast at 11 am.

Or, show up between 2:00 and 5:00 pm for their special Napili resort Happy Hour specials. Pupus are gourmet quality for only $5. Don’t miss the Polynesian Chopped Salad (grilled chicken, cabbage, edamame, Molokai sweet potato, pickled papaya with sesame ginger vinaigrette and flat bread), the Tenderloin Bruschetta (filet, tomatoes and mushrooms in a rich demi glace over toasted Asiago bread finished with balsamic syrup), or the Maui Beach Balls (Rock shrimp, mahimahi, corn, pepper jack cheese, scallions, furikake crust, mango mustard, wasabi vinaigrette and remoulade dipping sauce). All three are to die for and together are the best $15 you’ll ever spend and thereby qualifying as a fabulously cheap deal on Maui. Its really nice to have it so close to your Napili Bay condo.

The Pineapple Grill

From the Maui vacation condo rentals at Napili Village it’s a ten-minute walk or a two-minute car ride. Go north on Lower Honoapiilani Road, past the Mauian Hotel and the Napili Kai Resort and turn right on Kapalua Drive. The Bay Golf Course at Kapalua Resort clubhouse is on the right. The Pineapple Grill is located to the right of the clubhouse. Park in the lot. Seating is both inside and outside. If you are late arriving at our Napili discount hotel and you want atmosphere without having to pay dinner prices, try the bar menu. And if you go on a Thursday you’ll get one of the best great deals on Maui with 50% off on the pupu menu. Try the Kalua Pork & Maui onion Quesadilla with chipotle sour cream and the Asian Skewer Trio of curried chicken, chile shrimp, and kalbi beef with Thai peanut sauce. You’ll be livin’ large getting’ a great deal on Maui.

The Gazebo

The Gazebo – From the beach access follow the sand all the way to the left. Go past the first set of stairs and work your way up the rocks where the tide pools begin. You’ll see the path up and to the left. That will lead you to The Gazebo. There is a water faucet to wash the sand off your feet. Known as the restaurant with the perpetual waiting line, you’ll find the wait well worth it. The view is stunning. In season you’ll watch the whales jumping while turtles grace the water edge year round.

The Gazebo is open for breakfast and lunch from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm. You might try going for a late lunch around 1:15 pm. It eliminates waiting in line. If you are a meat eater, order the Kahuna Omlette and substitute a banana/macadamia nut pancake for the toast. Be sure to use the coconut syrup. It’s enough for two if you’re on a budget. If that’s too heavy for your tastes, split an order of fried rice. It’s fabulous and more than enough for two. Splitting an order of fried rice absolutely qualifies as a great deal on Maui. You won’t find any place like The Gazebo in any of the hotels in Lahaina Maui. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience. If Jerry, the owner, is there ask him if there is any mustard. It’s good for a laugh. Menu

Mama’s Ribs

Mama’s Ribs is a three-minute drive south from the Lahaina Maui hotels around Napili Bay. From Napili Village go right on Lower Honoapiilani Drive, less than a mile past the Napili Point Resort. A left on Napilihau will take you to the Napili Plaza Shopping Center. On the far right you’ll find Mama’s Ribs and Rotisserie. The ribs aren’t cheap but they are worth it. You know they’ve been cooked right when a plastic knife will separate them. The great deal on Maui is the Portuguese Bean Soup. An eight-ounce cup is only $3.50.

Hawaiian Village Coffee

Our favorite coffee shop is Hawaiian Village Coffee. They have the highest quality coffee beans and friendly staff. They also offer free high speed wi-fi. Yes, we do offer coffee and wi-fi here at the resort, but we don’t have Rosalani ice cream which is quite the Hawaiian treat. This and many other treats can be had at Hawaiian Village Coffee. There are two locations in the area. The closest is by McDonald’s in Kahana. The second is in the Fairway Shops by the Royal Lahaina Resort in Ka’anapali. Oh, and if you want to try the best authentic shave ice on the island, go to the location by the Royal Lahaina Resort in Ka’anapali. They have an old fashioned ice shaver that is essential for real shave ice.

Things to See and Do

Snorkeling Napili Bay

Napili Bay is a great place to play. Kapaula Bay may be a little better for snorkeling, but not much. But because there is more to do and not as many people, Napili Bay gets my vote. You won’t find water like this around any of the hotels in Lahaina Maui near the Ka’anapali strip. If you are staying at the Westin, Marriott or Royal Lahaina Resort, hop in your car, go rent snorkel gear and then drive to Napili to find a good spot. Better yet, just stay in Napili at one of our Maui vacation condo rentals. You’ll be within walking distance to great snorkeling.

From the back of Napili Village you are only one minute away from what is arguably the most beautiful bay on Maui, Napili Bay. Hang a left and walk thirty yards to the beach access. Hang a right and go ten yards and you’re there. The snorkeling is great any place you see a dark area under the water. No coral means no fish, so if it’s light blue there is nothing there but sand.

From the beach access, go straight out angling a few degrees to the right. As you swim out, occasionally pause to check your position. If you look straight in you want the beach access slightly on your right. When you see rocks on the bottom you’re nearing the reef and the channel. If it’s summer it won’t matter where you cross because the water is usually calm, but if there is a swell the channel is a great place to easily and safely get on the backside.

As you pass through the channel, a school of Goat Fish will greet you. You now have two options. If you go right you can make your way down the back side of the reef all the way to the Napili Kai Hotel seawall, and depending how long you want to be in the water, you can follow the sea wall out to the point where the most colorful coral is to be found. Or when the channel ends, you can continue straight keeping the coral on your left. If you follow the edge of the formation you will continue into deeper water and loop back a bit to your right before continuing away from the shore. If you get to the arch you’ve gone too far. Dive down, clear your ears and swim under it if you can. Then go in fifteen yards and back toward the shore twenty yards. It is at this point you’ll find some fabulous formations and if you look around a bit you might find the three resident turtles snoozing under an outcropping on the bottom. Stick around for five or ten minutes and they will surface. You can get fairly close but don’t try to touch them. If at the end of the channel you choose to go left, make sure you stay out of the surf line up. The surfers call it Hole in the Head for a reason.

If you are a beginner at snorkeling or have young children, go through the beach access and then turn right and go past the Mauian Hotel property and head toward the Napili Kai Resort. From the Napili Kai property all the way to the sea wall at the Sea House is excellent water for the beginner. The snorkeling is very good close in and to the right. Learn to breathe in the shallow water on the sand. Then swim out to the rocks and coral. It’s the perfect place to learn. Don’t stand on the bottom unless it’s sandy. It’s bad for the coral.

Kapalua Bay

The best beginner snorkeling bay anywhere, Kapalua Bay is only a seven-minute walk away from the Napili condo rentals at Napili Village. Go past the Napili Kai Hotel and go to the second parking lot. The first is for Napili Kai Hotel guests. The second is for Kapalua Bay. You’ll see signs for beach parking and one for the Coastal Trail. Go all the way into the parking lot. In the back you’ll see restrooms and showers. To the right you’ll see a tunnel. Walk down the steps, through the tunnel and you’re there. The water is clearer the farther out and over you go.

Beach Walks

If you like to take long walks for exercise, there are two coastal walks to choose from. There is one on the Kaanapali strip that takes you by the Westin, Marriott and Royal Lahaina Resort. The other is a nature walk across the lava flows that stretches from Kapalua Bay to Ironwoods and offers two different paths. The crashing surf is something wonderfully powerful to behold. If you like to walk, and if you love raw nature, these are “must do” trails for you.

From your Maui vacation rental by owner at Napili Village, go past The Mauian Hotel to the second parking lot past the Napili Kai Resort. Proceed to the back of the lot to the right of the rest rooms, down the stairs and through the tunnel. Continue on the sidewalk to the far side of the bay, past the Kapalua Dive Company. As you walk on past the Ritz Carlton Residences, which will be on your right, you’ll see the signs directing you to the Coastal Trail on your left. You can take either the long or short version. Both will end at Ironwoods. If you want to add some cardio to your walk, at Ironwoods go up to Lower Honoapiilani Road and go left. When you get to Office Road, if you want to add a little more cardio to your walk and another fifteen minutes, continue straight and enter the Ritz Carlton Hotel property. Follow the sidewalk to Fleming Beach. You’ll find a restroom and you can get a drink. You’ll huff and puff a bit on the way back up. If you’re very fit and desire even more cardio, at Office Road go left up the hill to the Honolua Store. It’s halfway up the hill on your left. I recommend stopping for lunch. After all you’ve been walking for more than half an hour. You deserve a break.

Whether or not you have lunch you have another decision to make. If you want more cardio, continue up the hill to Simpson Way and go to the top of Pineapple Hill. Follow Pineapple Hill Drive to Kapalua Drive and down to Lower Honoapiilani Road and home. But if you tend to get side-stitch when you walk too soon after eating, and if you don’t want to have to go up much to get home, cut across to the service road at the Honolua Store. It will take you to Kapalua Drive and back to your Napili condo rental.

Honokeana Cove

Honokeana Cove is a seven-minute walk from your Napili Bay condo, but give yourself ten. There are lots of turtles but it’s not for beginners. Follow directions as if you were going to the Gazebo at the Napili Shores, but keep going. You’ll see a path and finally you’ll see a shelf where you can enter the water. This is not a walk for the elderly or small children. Everyone needs to be sure of foot. You are guaranteed to see turtles, so if that’s important, don’t miss Honokeana Cove.

Kapalua Golf

If you are a golfer our Napili Bay condo hotel has you covered. We can assist with tee times at the great local courses in the Napili resort area. If you want to play where “Tiger” played, the Plantation Course will be just your cup of tea. It is where the PGA events are played and it is only a five-minute drive from our hotel. Take Lower Honoapi’ilani Road north past the Mauian Hotel, Napili Kai, and Ritz Residences. It dead-ends at Office Road. Turn right and go out past the The Ritz Hotel, Honolua Store and Kapalua Golf Club Driving Range to the main highway. Turn left and go about a mile. The turnoff to the Plantation is on the right. You can’t miss the clubhouse complex on your right. Follow the signs.

The Bay Course is only two minutes away from Napili Village by car. Take Lower Honoapi’ilani Road north and go past the Mauian. Take the first right past the Napili Kai Hotel. That’s Kapalua Drive. The Bay Course clubhouse is on your right.

There is a reason golfers avoid the Lahaina resort golf courses. As has been said, “Lahaina means “relentless sun” and an unrelenting sun makes Lahaina hotter then the Napili area.” Unless you play early morning you’re gonna’ cook. So if you’re a golfer, go north past the Lahaina resorts to where it’s cooler and check out all that our Napili Bay hotel has to offer. If you want something comparable to the Lahaina resort strip you’ll find the Napili Kai a wonderful option. If you don’t want to spend that much but waterfront is a priority check out The Mauian, Napili Point or Napili Surf. But if you want the most value for your vacation and still have the beach only fifty yards away, Napili Village will be your Maui vacation rentals of choice.

Kapalua Tennis

If you are a tennis player, we have a great deal on Maui for you. The Bay Golf Course at Kapalua Resort also has tennis courts. They are to the right of the clubhouse as you pull in off Kapalua Drive. The usual rate is $12 per person to play. That is a great deal by itself because they furnish the balls and create fun round-robin tournaments. However, if you sign up as an extra and give them your Napili Bay resorts phone number, when someone from the nearby Ritz Carlton Hotel or anywhere else in the Kapalua Resort calls and wants to play, they will call you and you can play for free. All you have to do is go back to your Napili Condo rental and hang out. Or, give them your cell number and hang around the Napili Village pool. How is that for a great deal in Maui? You can enjoy free tennis with the rich and famous in a Napili Bay resort.

Harvest at Kumulani Chapel

Looking for a good church to attend on Sunday morning while you are vacationing in Maui? We recommend Harvest at Kumulani Chapel. It’s only a five-minute drive from the Napili Village vacation rentals. The Bay Golf Course used to store the golf carts in what we affectionately call “The Barn.” Now, it is where the folks of Harvest at Kumulani Chapel meet. The area is covered but it opens to a majestic view of Molokai, the ocean, and the amazing clouds drifting across the horizon. The format is “Calvary Chapel” style with contemporary music and verse-by-verse teaching in whatever book of the Bible they happen to be studying. New visitors get a special, not to be missed, gift. Take the lower road north past The Mauian and Napili Kai Hotel to the end. Turn right onto Office Road. Just past the Honolua Store on the left you’ll see a parking lot. The Barn is on the right across from the shops just beyond the parking lot. Sunday morning services begin at 8am and 10am.

The Montage Kapalua Spa

The Montage Kapalua Spa bills itself as a seaside sanctuary. This is a world-class fitness and spa facility. You are probably wondering how this qualifies as a great deal on Maui. Here is the secret. With any service you get to spend the day. Ladies, treat your self to a basic manicure. You’ll get a locker, slippers and a robe. Take your swimsuit and workout gear. Spend the whole day enjoying the fitness equipment, pools, sun deck, sauna, steam, and whirlpool baths. It doesn’t get any fancier than this. Talk about a great deal on Maui! This is as good as it gets. The Kapalua Spa is a ten-minute walk or a two minute drive north of the Lahaina vacation rental at Napili Village. Go past the Mauian and Napili Kai Resort and take the first left past Kapalua Drive.

Old Lahaina Luau

Since you’re in Hawaii you should probably consider going to a luau. But you don’t want to go to just any luau. Some of them aren’t very Hawaiian. And most of them aren’t very good. Hands down, the best luau is Old Lahaina Luau. Plan ahead because they are frequently full weeks in advance. The food is fabulous and the show is absolutely not to be missed.

Warren and Annabelle’s

If sidesplitting laughs, coupled with mind-boggling magic is your bag, you won’t want to miss Warren and Annabelle’s. In one of Maui’s most elegant and intimate settings, Warren Gibson, one of the country’s premier sleight-of-hand magicians, treats you to “close-up” magic, hilarious comedy and southern hospitality.

You’ll want to get out on the water on a boat at least once while you’re here. Trilogy is the way to do it. They have been conducting whale watching excursions, snorkel trips, sunset/dinner cruises, dolphin searches, and day trips to Lanai longer than anyone. They run a first class operation that operates on a “safety first” principle. They are quite simply “the best.”

Ironwood Ranch

What is it about junior high girls and their love affair with horses? There is something special about horses for some people. If that sounds like someone in your party The Ironwood Ranch has just what you’re looking for . . . horseback riding.

Kapalua Dive Company

For kayak trips and scuba diving we recommend the Kapalua Dive Company. Located at the north end of Kapalua Bay, Paul Anka runs the Kapalua Dive Company. No, he’s not the famous singer of the same name, but he’ll safely take you scuba diving or show you a great time on a kayak trip. He’s close and very good at what he does. When it comes to safety you don’t want to cut corners to save a buck.

Napili Hotels From your Napili condo rental, go north past the Mauian Hotel to the second parking lot past the Napili Kai Resort. Go to the back of the lot to the right of the rest rooms, down the stairs and through the tunnel. Continue on the sidewalk to the far side of the bay. You’ll see the signs for the Kapalua Dive Company on your left before you get to the Ritz Residences and Kapalua Spa.

The Napili Village staff have gotten to know the Volcom folks very well. Their representatives and families stay with us when they are on island. Volcom has a huge presence in Maui. They host the annual Totally Crustaceous Tour for Maui surfing youth and they sponsor our local surfing hero, Dusty Payne, on the ASP World Tour. They have two great stores, one in Whaler’s Village and the other on Front Street in Lahaina. If you’re in the market for surf/skate apparel, the Napili Village Resort Condos crew recommends Volcom.
